About Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club

Founded in 1959 by the film star William Holden, Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club has a colourful history and a list of members that reads like a ‘Who’s who’ of royalty, aristocracy and film stars, many of whose photos line the walls of the bar.

The club, set in manicured gardens, faces the jutting peaks of Mt Kenya, Africa’s 2nd highest mountain. Straddling the equator, the club has a water feature at its centre demonstrating the clockwise - anti clockwise water movement of the northern and southern hemispheres. There are 12 Fairmont rooms, 41 deluxe suites, 12 cottages, 8 garden suites and a lavish equator suite with lines on the floor marking the division of the hemispheres.

Every room has a fireplace, en-suite bathroom with power-shower and a minibar; the suites also offer a living room and dressing room complete with chaise langue and dressing table. Golf carts are available to carry guests from cottages to the main hotel. The restaurant has an a la carte menu, the bar has a snack menu or for the utmost privacy, a group of 12 can dine in the private dining room. The hotel also boasts a swimming pool, a maze, an animal orphanage and an art gallery.

Activities include mountain climbing, horse riding, camel riding, fishing and rafting.
