Established in November 2010, Nairobi Tented Camp is the first and only safari camp in Nairobi National Park. Deep in a riverine forest, in the speckled shade of an olive grove, this authentic tented camp offers a true wilderness experience on the doorstep of Nairobi.
There are 8 en-suite tents, made up of twins and doubles. The tents are furnished with writing desks, chairs and sheepskin rugs, and their verandas have chairs and tables. Gourmet candlelit dinners are served in the central mess tent, and include freshly baked bread, poached whole salmon, soufflé and Kenyan roast beef. The bar is fully stocked with soft drinks, beers, wines and spirits. A tent can be set up for team meetings or small corporate events.
Activities include game drives in the park and game walks in Kisembe Valley. Trips to nearby attractions are also on offer, such as the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, the Giraffe Centre, Karen Blixen Museum and National Museum, as well as local craft designers Marula Studios, Kazuri Beads and Utamaduni.
The camp embraces the latest eco-technology, deals with its water and waste responsibly and is lit by solar power. It is truly mobile; only tent pegs are stuck in the ground. The camp is operated by Gamewatchers Safaris whose commitment to ecotourism includes initiating conservancies in wildlife areas around Kenya.
