Mara Porini Camp is one of only two camps, both managed by Porini, located in the exclusive wildlife conservancy of Ol Kinyei. This beautiful wilderness area has savannah plains, riverine forest and fresh springs. The conservancy belongs to a Maasai community that recently allocated the area a sanctuary for wildlife, and contains a wide variety of animal and bird species, including a resident pride of lion. There are 6 en-suite tents, shaded by yellow-barked acacia trees on the banks of the Laetoli, a permanent spring within Ol Kinyei. The tents are furnished in traditional, elegant safari style, have double and single beds, and the bathrooms contain safari showers. The food is freshly prepared, and includes homemade bread and crisp salad, and the bar is fully stocked.
Game drives cover the Ol Kinyei Conservancy, Naboisho Conservancy and the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Night drives in the conservancy give guests the chance to see the more elusive nocturnal game. Maasai warriors lead walks in the conservancy, and speak about how the various indigenous animals and plants are used by their community.
Mara Porini Camp has been granted a prestigious gold award from Ecotourism Kenya for its extensive eco-policies in land use, water, sewage, energy and waste disposal. The local Maasai community receives income for each guest in the conservancy, and employment for its members.
