True to its name, Swahili for mountain, Kilima Camp sits high on the Oloololo Escarpment and has a sweeping view of the plains of the Maasai Mara National Reserve and the Mara River. The camp opened in 2007 and offers an authentic camp experience.
The 12 en-suite tents can be either twin or double, and have solar powered lighting, safari showers and views across the plains. There are also 2 spacious deluxe tents. The camp has minimal permanent structures, and has made as little impact as possible on the environment. Lunch is served in the mess tent, and can be either a la carte or buffet. Dinner is served under the stars, weather permitting, and is a traditional African buffet, with grilled meats, ugali and chapatti.
Activities include 2 game drives per day, and game walks. Other activities, for an additional charge, include night game drives, visits to a local Maasai village and market, archery with a Maasai instructor, bush dinners and massages. The camp holds a prestigious gold award from Ecotourism Kenya.
Rated silver by Ecotourism Kenya, the camp is committed to sustainable policies. Over 800 indigenous trees have been planted here since the camp was created, and the camp is self-sufficient in water and has an efficient waste management scheme. The camp also supports local communities and Il Toshi primary school.
