Hemingways Resort, a luxury tropical retreat, lies along the fringe of Watamu Marine National Park. Named for Ernest Hemingway, it recreates this famous author’s style and elegance. Hemingways has 2 accommodation wings, one each side of a central block which houses the bars, restaurant, reception, shops and business centre.
There are 76 en-suite rooms, made up of 2 executive suites, 4 junior suites, 26 superior rooms and 44 deluxe rooms, all with sea view, aircon, fan and private balcony with panoramic views. The architecture is coastal, with whitewashed walls, traditional thatched roofs and tiled floors. The rooms are adorned with bright fabrics, hand painted lamps and handmade furniture. The resort was extensively refurbished in 2017, with an upgrade of all the accommodation and facilities.
The executive chef creates dishes from fresh local produce. The restaurant serves buffet or table d’hote; dishes include lobster tail soup, seafood casserole, massaman vegetable curry and cheese plate. Lunch is served at the pool or on the terrace. The main bar and the pool bar have a selection of cocktails, and serve lunch and snacks. There is also a spa, gym, boutique, jewellery shop, hair salon and bureau de change. WiFi is available throughout the hotel. Water sports include snorkelling, fishing and dhow cruises. The resort has eco-friendly policies including a recycling plant for grey water. Nearby sites of interest include Mida Creek and Arabuko Sokoke Forest.
