Beyt Salaam, meaning house of peace, is an attractive house which combines traditional Arabian and Swahili styles with modern facilities. The hotel opened in 2010, and overlooks the seafront.
There are 4 en-suite double rooms. Ndau room is on the ground floor, Pate and Siyu rooms are on the 1st floor and the spacious Shela suite is on the 2nd floor. All rooms have aircon, fan, desk, telephone, terrace and sea view. The furniture has been handcrafted in traditional Lamu style; particularly of note are the heavy Lamu doors and the intricately carved dressing tables. Breakfast is served on the 3rd floor rooftop terrace, with views of the sea. Lunch and dinner can be provided with advance notice. The chef creates Swahili dishes or international cuisine, as required. Dinner can also be served on a dhow, for a surcharge. Electricity is provided by solar power.
The hotel staff can assist with booking water sports, including snorkelling, scuba diving, windsurfing and deep sea fishing. Dhow cruises to Takwa Ruins, Siyu Island and Pate Island can also be arranged. Tours of Lamu Old Town and Lamu Museum are on offer. The hotel can also book safaris, excursions and trips to destinations around Kenya.
