On the seafront near a cluster of boats, Stopover Guest House gleams white against the palm trees. The hotel’s rooms have lovely views across the harbour and of the daily life of the fishermen and boat captains.
There are 6 en-suite rooms, all with sea views. The 1st floor has 3 rooms and a fully equipped kitchen for guests who choose the self-catering option. The 2nd floor has 2 more spacious rooms, each with 2 double beds, Lamu table and chairs. The third floor has a penthouse apartment comprising large room and private veranda. All rooms have 4-poster bed, mosquito net and fan. There is a large sea facing balcony on each floor. Stopover Restaurant has a large menu of international dishes, seafood and Asian fusion cuisine. Dishes include chicken sate, chicken laksa, crab bisque, prawns biriani, spicy coconut soup, spaghetti bolognaise, fish kebab and lobster, avocado and mango salad. Fresh fish is delivered daily by fishermen. Buffet under the stars can be arranged on request.
Boat trips around Lamu Island, to neighbouring islands, to Manda Toto and to the Takwa Ruins can all be arranged. Scuba diving and snorkelling can also be arranged. Other activities include traditional henna painting, tours of Shela Village and Lamu Old Town and donkey rides on Shela beach. Stopover Hotel is open throughout the year.
