Amboseli Sopa Lodge sits in 190 acres of wooded land at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro. The lodge is designed to reflect the style of the Maasai: its reception replicates the entrance to a Maasai hut and its ornaments are silver spear heads, beaded necklaces and wrought iron Maasai figures. There is a Maasai market on site; proceeds support the local community. There are 80 en-suite rooms, made up of 18 singles, 40 twins, 20 doubles, 1 presidential suite and 1 honeymoon suite. 6 rooms have interconnecting doors suitable for families, and 2 rooms have wheelchair access. The rooms are individual cottages, linked by shaded pathways, and are adorned with local materials like sisal and driftwood, as well as Maasai blanket fabrics.
Kibo Restaurant, named after the highest peak of Mt Kilimanjaro, serves buffet breakfast, lunch and themed dinner. Mawenzi Bar, also named after a peak of Mt Kilimanjaro, has Maasai dancers on alternate nights. Hemingway’s Bar, built by Ernest Hemingway as a house, is furnished with leather armchairs and decorated with pictures of the great author. The Pool Bar, surrounded by garden, overlooks the swimming pool.
Activities include game drives, game walks, cultural visits and mountain climbing. Functions, conferences and weddings can be arranged.
Amboseli Sopa Lodge holds a bronze award from Ecotourism Kenya.
