About Baytil Ajaib

This traditional Lamu house has been lovingly restored and embellished with genuine antiques. The house is intended for visitors who really appreciate the traditional ambience, style and culture of Lamu.

Baytil Ajaib has 2 en-suite double rooms and 2 suites. The rooms have a long sitting area with traditional chest, writing desk and intricately carved 4-poster bed. The bathrooms have original Swahili commodes and porcelain basins. The 1st floor suite is for a family, with a double room and a small double bed in the alcove of the sitting room. It also includes a private courtyard with palms and plants. The 2nd floor suite has a double room and an open sitting room with terrace. Each room and suite has complete privacy and is furnished with authentic Lamu furniture and adorned with antiques from Morocco, China and India.

The hosts offer a tour of Lamu and introductions to local residents, shops and galleries. Visitors can discuss their food preferences with the chef, who provides Swahili cuisine, seafood or international dishes as required. Meals are served in the dining room or on the rooftop terrace, on cushions, with a view over Lamu Old Town. Dhow trips and water sports can be booked locally, as can visits to ancient sites and ruins.
