In the picturesque Acacia Valley, Kicheche Mara Camp looks out on a prime wildlife viewing area of Mara North Conservancy. The tents look out over the Olare Orok stream and the western escarpment of the valley. There are 8 en-suite tents, which can be double or twin as required. Triple tents and family tents are available on request. All tents are furnished with cedar beds, and adorned with woven rugs. Deck chairs are on the verandas and hammocks slung between nearby trees. The cuisine is a blend of African and European dishes; meals are served alfresco or in the spacious dining tent. The Nyati Tent, furnished with comfortable seating, a library of reference books, board games and local artefacts, makes a pleasant place to relax.
Kicheche’s guides are highly qualified and experienced, and take regular training courses. Activities include game drives, game walks and cultural visits to Maasai villages, as well as visits to local schools supported by the camp.
The Kicheche Community Project, established in 2004, encourages the preservation of the environment and improves the welfare of the community. Kicheche was applauded by Chris Haslam, AITO travel writer of the year, for its passionate commitment to the community. Kicheche Mara Camp holds Ecotourism Kenya’s prestigious gold award for its eco-policies. The camp is closed during the rains, in April and May.
