In a riverine forest on the banks of the seasonal Olare Orok River, Mara Bush Camp is tucked discreetly into the heart of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. This eco-friendly camp has no permanent structures, and remains small and simple for private, authentic safaris. It is seasonal, and opens mid-December to early January, mid-February to mid-March and mid-July to mid-November. The 12 en-suite tents are furnished with clothes racks, storage chests and writing desks. Their private verandas overlook the river. The camp’s chef serves freshly prepared buffet lunches and dinners under the stars or in the mess tent. The adjoining lounge tent, with bar and library, is a space where guests can meet and exchange highlights of the day. There is also a photo lounge with workstations and recharging facilities, and a small gift shop with Maasai artifacts.
For an additional cost, game drives can be arranged. Mara Bush Camp also offers night drives that leave camp after dinner in camp vehicles fitted with spotlights and an additional spotter. Resident naturalists teach tracking and animal identification on game walks. Cultural visits to Maasai villages can be arranged. Children’s activities include animal print identification, learning about the environment and Maasai bush skills. The camp has environmental policies on responsible water and power usage and waste disposal.
