About Mara Explorer

On a forested curve of the Talek River, Mara Explorer has sweeping views along the riverbanks. This central location in the Maasai Mara National Reserve is rich in wildlife, not only during the annual migration but all year round.

The 10 luxury en-suite tents, 7 doubles and 3 twins, look out on the river, and have radios for communication with their private butlers. Furnished in the style of traditional safaris, the tents have hand-carved furniture, antique chests and prints of early explorers. The piece de resistance is a Victorian claw-foot bath on a deck overlooking the African bush, beside each tent. Meals are served in the riverside dining area, on the guests’ veranda or in the bush, and are created from fresh vegetables and herbs from the camp’s garden.

Activities include personalised game drives, game walks in the Mara Conservation Area and visits to Maasai communities supported by the camp. Bush meals, sundowners and private parties can be arranged. Local Maasai give lectures and slideshows on their culture and wildlife. Guests are welcome to use the swimming pool at nearby Mara Intrepids. Mara Explorer uses eco-friendly systems for heating water and disposing of waste, and supports local primary schools and medical clinics.

Mara Explorer holds Ecotourism Kenya’s silver award.
