Che Shale is a boutique hotel situated on 5km of deserted beach, fringed by coral reef and surrounded by thousands of palm trees and lush indigenous vegetation. Che Shale is renowned for being the pioneer of kite surfing in East Africa and has conditions that are ideal for learners and experienced kite surfers alike.
There are 5 en-suite rooms, made up of 2 double rooms, 1 triple room and 2 family rooms. The rooms are adorned with unique furniture carved out of blocks of mango and cedar wood, soft natural colours and large lamps made out of palm fibre. They all have verandas furnished with daybeds, and showers that are open to the sky. The restaurant has an international a la carte menu, and specialises in seafood.
As well as kite surfing, activities include surfing and deep sea fishing. Massage is also on offer. The hotel supports community school outreach programmes and guests are welcome to visit the projects, as well as experience the culture of the local fishermen. Che Shale was built using low impact, renewable materials, such as casuarina trees, doum palm leaves, palm matting and dhow wood collected from the beach. The hotel is closed in May and June.
