The stunning Neem House is built in traditional Swahili style, with Arabic arches, wrought iron windows and antique Lamu doors. Traditional boriti poles decorate the roofs and cool Galana stone paves the floors. The courtyard has an attractive swimming pool and the extensive rooftop offers breath-taking views over the treetops. The furniture, created from teak and designed for the coast, includes sun loungers, day beds and a 3.6-meter dining table. Brass urns, elegant lamps, cut glass decanters and full bookcases adorn the house.
The four spacious bedrooms are light, airy and elegant. There are three double en-suite rooms with surrounding verandas. The fourth room is a Lamu-style room on the roof surrounded by a canopy of Neem and fig trees, with four single beds beneath a high makuti roof.
The spacious living areas include airy courtyards, alfresco dining areas and a mature garden of Neem, fig and palm trees. The house is staffed, and the experienced chef uses local produce and seafood to create tasty dishes. Activities include diving or snorkeling in the coral gardens of Malindi and Watamu Marine Reserves, as well as big game fishing (tag and release). Visits to Gede Ruins, Kipepeo Butterfly Farm and Malindi town are also interesting.
