Sarara Camp, set in 850,000 acres of community conservation, has become known for luxury tented accommodation and exclusivity. The 6 spacious en-suite tents, all elegantly furnished, have been positioned to maximise the breathtaking views. Buffet lunch is served in the mess tent or under the trees. Dinner is served on the terrace overlooking the pool or by a campfire in the bush.
In 1995, in response to shocking poaching in the area, the Namunyak Wildlife Conservation Trust was initiated, under the umbrella of the Northern Rangelands Trust, NRT. Two years later Sarara Camp opened, with the intention of supporting and preserving this pristine wilderness and, true to its original purpose, the camp is now wholly owned by the Namunyak community.
Local Samburu guides lead game drives and walks, fly camping with camels, trekking in the Matthew’s Mountain Range and game watching from a concealed hide. The area has become known for quality leopard sightings, as well as sightings of the shy lesser kudu and African wild dogs. 500 species of birds have been identified, including 5 types of hornbill and numerous birds of prey. Sarara is the only place guests can observe the magical and timeless tradition of the Samburu Singing Wells. The camp is closed in May and November.
