About Kilaguni Serena Safari Lodge

Kilaguni, meaning young rhino, in the language of the Kamba, is located on a ridge with sweeping views of the Chyulu Hills at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro. Opened in 1962, Kilaguni Lodge was the first safari lodge ever to be built in a national park. It has been under the management of Serena Hotels since December 1999.

The lodge is located in the middle of Tsavo West National Park. Overlooking a waterhole, the lodge offers the chance of good sightings of game without leaving its viewing decks. The 56 en-suite bedrooms, all with private verandas, have been elegantly renovated using the colours of the African bush: sun-gold, sky-blue and bush-green. The lodge has a broad terrace where guests can enjoy their sundowner while watching spectacular African sunsets. There is also an open air restaurant serving ethnic and international cuisine, several timbered game-viewing decks and a bar hewn out of rock, all with uninterrupted views of the legendary snows of Mt Kilimanjaro and the elephant studded plains.

Activities include game drives, excursions to Mzima Springs, with its crystal clear water welling up from volcanic rocks, the rhino sanctuary, Chaimu Lava Floor, Sheitani Lava and Roaring Rocks, a volcanic hill formation with caves and rocks. Kilaguni Serena holds Ecotourism Kenya’s silver award.
