There are a number of good hospitals in Nairobi. There are also hospitals in major towns, and medical clinics in rural areas. African Medical and Research Foundation, AMREF, provides an excellent air evacuation service for medical emergencies throughout the country. Contact www.amref.org for more details.

Malaria is found throughout the country, although malaria transmission at altitudes of over 1,520 meters is rare. Travellers should consult their doctor before travelling, for advice on the most recent prophylactics. Yellow fever vaccination certificates may be required at immigration if visitors are entering Kenya from an infected country.
