About Sosian

Sosian’s original ranch house was built in the 1940s by Italian artisans. After elegant restoration, it opened as Sosian Lodge. The garden, dominated by succulents, has a backdrop of Mt Kenya. Sosian is a 24,000-acre private wildlife conservancy combining tourism, conservation and traditional cattle ranching.

There are 7 en-suite double cottages, each with private veranda. Sosian’s home cooking is created from fresh ingredients grown in the garden. Meals are served in the lodge, by the river, by the swimming pool or in the bush. Sosian’s activities include walking, horse riding, camel safaris, day and night game drives and cultural visits to local Samburu villages. The river offers a plethora of activities including fishing, rafting and jumping off waterfalls. Archery and tennis are available. Sosian also offers specialised walking safaris: visitors explore the bush, tracking animals during the day and sleeping in a mobile tented camp in a new location each night. Sosian has a herd of over 600 Boran cattle, Kenya’s zebu breed developed from the native stock, including a pedigree breeding herd and small dairy herd. A tour of the ranching side of Sosian includes assisting with dipping, weighing and vaccinating. Sosian is affiliated to Offbeat Safaris and can arrange safaris around the country and horse riding safaris.
