Named after the rhino for which Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is famed, Kifaru House is a stylish private villa located in the conservancy. The 65,000-acre conservancy is home to several endangered species including black rhino, Grevy’s zebra and sitatunga. All profit from Kifaru House is directly reinvested in Lewa’s conservation and community projects.
There are 6 en-suite cottages, each with 4-poster double bed, large windows with views of the conservancy and private veranda. Each cottage has solar powered electricity, and is equipped with stereo and mini-fridge. The lodge has a spacious living area with open fireplace, tastefully decorated with local lamps, rugs and artefacts. The library has internet access, DVD player and satellite TV. The swimming pool and sunbathing terrace have a view of Mt Kenya. Massage, manicure and pedicure are available with prior notice.
Activities include day and night game drives, game walks, horse riding and camel trekking. Visits to prehistoric sites and cultural visits to local communities are also available. The guides are happy to give educative talks on the operation of the conservancy. For an extra charge, cultural visits to Il Ngwesi and helicopter fishing on Lake Rutundu, Mt Kenya, can be arranged. Kifaru House is closed in April and November.
