About Samburu Intrepids
Situated on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River in the arid heart of Samburu National Reserve, Samburu Intrepids looks out over riverbanks on which guests have a chance of spotting the rare northern species of reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx and gerenuk.
The 27 en-suite tents, furnished with 4-poster beds, mahogany cupboards and writing desks, have secluded verandas overlooking the river.
Meals can be served in the palm-thatched dining room, on the shady terrace, on the guests’ veranda or in the bush. Lectures and slideshows on wildlife or local Samburu dances take place in the open air lounge and bar most evenings. A small conference room is equipped with TV and VCR for those who wish to watch wildlife documentaries, and the freeform oasis swimming pool is surrounded by a sunbathing garden for those who prefer to relax.
Inside the reserve, the camp offers 2 daily game drives. Outside the reserve, activities include game walks, camel safaris, visits to neighbouring Samburu communities and fly camping on sacred Mt Ololokwe. The Adventurers’ and Young Rangers’ clubs offer activities for children. Samburu Intrepids contributes a percentage of guests’ fees to various development projects, including a primary school, a bee-keeping training scheme and cost-price medical services for nearby villages, and has been awarded Ecotourism Kenya’s silver award.
