At the source of the Sekenani River, Sekenani Camp stretches along a stream flowing from a natural rock pool. This exotic combination of forest and river, on the edge of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, is home to plentiful game; over 200 species of birds have been recorded within 1km of the camp.
The 15 large en-suite tents are raised off the ground on platforms. Each tent is set into the bush to ensure privacy, and has a wooden veranda overlooking the forest. The well-appointed tents are adorned with woven rugs and crafted wooden furniture.
A suspension bridge connects the guest tents with the dining room, campfire and bar area, where freshly prepared meals and a wide selection of drinks are served.
As well as day and night game drives, game walks with Maasai guides in the hills surrounding the camp are a speciality here. Bush picnics and sundowners are also available.
This eco-friendly camp, with a bronze award from Ecotourism Kenya, is operated in conjunction with 26 Maasai families. It hosts a community project that aims to improve the quality of life of the Maasai people by developing healthcare, veterinary services, education and clean water around the reserve. Interested guests are welcome to visit local community projects.
