About Mara Intrepids

Overlooking the Talek River, and only a short drive from the Mara River, Mara Intrepids is in a prime game viewing area in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The area was used in the 2004 BBC documentary Big Cat Diary. The 30 en-suite tents, on raised platforms, are furnished with 4-poster beds and polished wooden furniture and have shady verandas looking out over the river. The camp is divided into 4 areas, each with its own open air dining area and mess tent for private functions. Breakfast and lunch are usually served alfresco, while dinner is served in the thatched dining room. There is also a freeform, riverside swimming pool with a sunbathing terrace, a game viewing platform with bar service and a fully equipped conference room.

Activities include 3 daily game drives, game walks outside the reserve and visits to local Maasai communities. Maasai naturalists give evening slideshows on local culture and wildlife. Romantic sundowners and bush meals can be arranged. The Adventurers’ and the Young Rangers’ clubs organise activities for children.

Mara Intrepids donates part of its fees to local community initiatives, such as medical clinics, primary schools and environmental awareness training. Environmentally aware principles govern the camp’s waste disposal, hot water heating and compost. The camp holds a bronze awards from Ecotourism Kenya.
