About Tortilis Camp

From a grove of the acacia tortilis trees that gave the camp its name, Tortilis Camp looks across the plains at Mt Kilimanjaro. Set in a 20,000-acre private concession bordering Amboseli National Park, Tortilis has a reputation for charm and attention to detail.

There are 17 spacious en-suite tents, made up of 9 doubles and 8 twins. The tents are raised on wooden decks and have large verandas. Meals are prepared from home recipes and are complemented by salads and herbs grown in the camp’s garden.

As well as the elephants for which Amboseli is famed, the concession is home to a wide variety of mammal and bird species. Local Maasai guides share their knowledge of the indigenous species of game and of the traditions and customs of the Maasai. Tortilis is committed to the environment and actively preserves the extended Amboseli area. For this, Tortilis has been awarded the British Airways award for ecotourism. The camp also works closely with the local communities; over 80% of the staff are employed from the local community. Tortilis was on the Conde Nast Traveller Gold List in 2005, 2006 and 2008. It was also listed in the 500 Best Hotels in the World, by Travel and Leisure Magazine in 2008. Tortilis Camp has attained Ecotourism Kenya’s prestigious gold award.
