About Rondo Retreat

Rondo was built by a saw miller at the base of a towering Elgon Olive in 1948, and left to the Christian Council of Kenya in 1961. In 1966, the Trinity Fellowship took over and ran it as a youth centre and orphanage. Now a hospitable homestead, it has become Rondo Retreat.

The homestead consists of the main house and 5 cottages. There are 15 en-suite double rooms, and 3 double rooms with shared bathroom. The rooms are creatively decorated, with a mix of antique prints and photographs, and local paintings, crafts and fabrics. This Christian sanctuary offers hiking, bird watching, research and peaceful contemplation. Home cooked breakfast, lunch and candlelit dinner are served in the dining room. No alcohol is served.

The chapel, on the edge of the garden overlooking the forest, is ideal for individual prayer, congregational services, meetings, seminars and small conferences.

The undulating gardens are a delightful mix of lawn, flowers, streams, fishponds and forest. Birds and butterflies, flora and fauna are abundant, including several endemic species. Rondo has facilitated research by Kenya Indigenous Forest Conservation Project, KIFCON, and KWS. Future projects include Community Outreach, Environmental Education and Regenerative Agroforestry. The Kitchen Toto was filmed here.
