About Marsabit Lodge

Marsabit National Park was home to Ahmed, the legendary mammoth elephant who lived to a grand old age and whose remains continue to be exhibited at the National Museum of Kenya in Nairobi. The park, surrounding Mt Marsabit, is forested and lush, dotted with cliffs and waterholes. Local animal species include greater kudu, oryx, bushbuck, reticulated giraffe and warthog, as well as predators such as lion, hyena, cheetah and leopard. Prolific birdlife includes over 52 species of eagle, hawk and falcon. Marsabit Lodge overlooks Sokorte Diko, a cliff-lined waterhole that attracts game from the surrounding forest. There are 24 en-suite rooms, made up of singles, twins, doubles and triples. A communal veranda stretches along the lodge, giving views of the waterhole. There is also a campsite. Paradise Restaurant, overlooking the waterhole, serves local and international cuisine. Sokorte Bar and Lounge has an open fireplace and a selection of soft drinks, beers and spirits. The lodge also offers secretarial services and currency exchange. Childcare and babysitting can be arranged.

Game drives in the park are available. Guided walking safaris, outside the national park, can be arranged. Marsabit is a convenient place to stay during trips to the Chalbi Desert, Loyangalani, Koobi Fora and other destinations in northern Kenya.
