Mpata Safari Club is named after the famed Tanzania artist, SG Mpata, and designed by Edward Suzuki, a leading architect in Japan. Set high on Oloololo Escarpment, the club has panoramic views across the Mara plains. There are 23 cottages, made up of 12 deluxe units and 11 suites, all positioned to maximise the view. The deluxe units are designed with interlocking curved walls separating the bedroom, bathroom and veranda, and have an outside barbecue. The suites are larger, and have bedroom, bathroom, lounge, kitchenette and an outside Jacuzzi.
The clubhouse houses the restaurant, library and sunken rock bar. Baboon Bar, crafted into the landscaped garden overlooking the plains, makes a perfect sundowner spot. All meals prepared at the club are nouvelle cuisine, based on inventive recipes by Kiyomi Mikuni.
Morning game drives leave at 6am and return for a full English breakfast. Evening game drives leave at 3pm. Full day game drives are also available. Other activities include game walks and cultural visits to a Maasai village. Balloon safaris and fishing trips to Lake Victoria can be booked here. Mpata Safari Club was voted the best safari lodge in Kenya by The Kenya Association of Travel Agents in 1996.
