Rekero nestles in riverine forest on the banks of the Talek River. This seasonal eco-camp was established by 2 families. The Beaton family came to Kenya in 1889, and was involved in the suppression of the slave trade and the establishment of protected national parks. The Looseyia family lived here for generations, and has long experience of wildlife and the bush. The camp, now managed by Asilia Africa, offers a charming combination of luxury and proximity to nature.
There are 8 en-suite tents, made up of 7 doubles or twins, and 1 family tent. The tents are furnished in traditional safari style, and the bathrooms have safari showers. Meals, blending flavours from east and west, are served in the mess tent or in the bush.
The area is a vital wildlife corridor. The experienced Dorobo and Maasai guides offer an insight into animal behaviour, flora, fauna and local cultures. Activities include game drives, game walks and cultural visits to local Maasai villages.
The camp supports community conservation, and implements projects focusing on education and the environment. It is committed to the preservation of the Maasai Mara National Reserve, and has been awarded a prestigious gold award by Ecotourism Kenya. The camp is closed during the rains, in April, May and November.
