About Richard’s River Camp

Established in 2006 as Richard and Liz Roberts’ family home, this lovely camp is in the Mara North Conservancy, bordering the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The camp is on the banks of the Njageteck River and has clear views of the animals drawn to the river to drink. The area is known for its resident lion pride who can often be heard roaring at night.

The 7 en-suite tents are furnished with handpicked furniture and interesting artefacts Liz collected on her travels. The spacious mess tent, raised on a wooden deck, is elegantly adorned with African antiques, local art, lanterns and the décor of the bush. The cuisine is inventive, and meals can be served in the mess tent, at a candlelit table beneath the stars or in the guests’ tent. Bush dinners, cooked by eco-charcoal oven, can be arranged.

Activities include game drives in Mara North, Lemek and Ol Choro Conservancies, as well as the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Other activities include guided bird walks, cultural visits to local Maasai villages, and sundowners in the bush. The camp is keenly eco-friendly and minimises its use of plastic. Richard and Liz founded the Mara Elephant Project which mitigates human-wildlife conflict and collars, monitors and tracks elephants to reduce poaching.
