Angama, meaning ‘suspended in mid-air’, is an apt name for this lodge that sits high on the escarpment with sweeping views across the Maasai Mara. Angama Mara opened in 2015 and has already won numerous prestigious awards.
There are 2 groups of 15 spacious tented suites, 4 pairs of which are interconnecting and suitable for families. All suites are glass-fronted with views across the plains, and have elegant wooden and canvas furniture adorned with Maasai red fabrics. All suites have wooden floors, writing desk, drinks cabinet, Africology toiletries, charging points and spacious balconies with views. The tented living and dining area is also glass-fronted with an extensive deck. Guests can eat here, in the library, by the pool, in the bush or in their private suite. The chef uses fresh local produce from the camp’s fruit and vegetable garden to create simple yet delicious dishes, and the wine list is impressive.
There’s also a fitness room with Technogym equipment, solar heated infinity pool, and safari shop with local artefacts. Activities are planned at the guests’ discretion, and include game drives in open-sided vehicles, bird walks, balloon flights, and cultural visits to local Maasai villages. The Angama Foundation supports projects in education, healthcare and conservation, and has been rated silver by Ecotourism Kenya..
