About Serena Mountain Lodge

Located at an altitude of 1950m, Serena Mountain Lodge is surrounded by a dense, ancient rainforest that comes alive at dusk with a chorus of sounds. The rocky, white-capped peaks of Mt Kenya tower over the lodge, providing a striking setting for game viewing.

The lodge is one of the earliest safari lodges built in Kenya. It overlooks a waterhole, fringed by a diverse mixture of forest vegetation, that is visited by a wide variety of mammal and bird species. Elephant, buffalo, rhino and waterbuck are regularly sighted. A specially constructed viewing bunker, connected to the lodge by a short tunnel, gives guests the opportunity to get surprisingly close to the animals that feed at the waterhole. A spacious veranda also overlooks the waterhole.

Serena Mountain Lodge has 42 en-suite rooms, furnished with indigenous wood and African art, all brightly decorated with thick pile rugs and woven wall hangings. The traditional timbered dining room serves international dishes. The kids’ club has a range of inventive activities for children. Activities include game drives and guided forest walks. Hikes to the peaks of Mt Kenya can also be arranged from here. The lodge has attained Ecotourism Kenya’s silver award.
