About Speke’s Camp

Speke’s Camp is a traditional safari camp on the eastern edge of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The camp is surrounded by indigenous trees near the banks of the Olare Orok River.

The 10 en-suite tents are decorated in traditional safari style with wooden chests, writing tables, safari chairs and private verandas; their bathrooms have safari showers. There are also 2 ‘pods’ suitable for families or larger groups. The mess tent has comfortable sofas, handcrafted tables, woven rugs, African art, laden bookshelves, a fully stocked bar and verandas with views of the bush. The chef serves inventive and tasty food beneath the trees, including Vietnamese spring rolls, pasta primavera and delectable desserts. Guests have their own vehicle and choose the times of their game drives. The camp is firmly eco-friendly, using water sustainably, recycling and composting, and supports several local community projects.

Maasai Trails offers fascinating walks guided by local Maasai guides through the sacred Loita Forest and the Rift Valley. The walks, with porters and chef, can take one or several days as the guests wish; the camp is put up in a different spot each night, meals and drinks are served, and the Maasai speak about their culture and traditions.
