On a curve of the Mara River, Hammerkop Migration Camp looks out over the famous river and the animals and birds that come to it to drink. As the name suggests, the camp is perfectly positioned to view the annual great migration during the months the wildebeest and other animals are in Kenya.
The 7 en-suite tents have solid wooden furniture, elegant lamps, woven rugs and views of the river. The mess tent is adorned with comfortable sofas, attractive carpets, hand carved dining tables and chairs, and books about the Maasai Mara and its wildlife and birdlife.
Activities include game drives in the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Cultural visits to Maasai villages include learning about their traditional culture, ancient way of life and the beadwork with which they adorn their goods, which are also available for sale. Optional extras include a balloon flight.
Hammercop Migration Camp contributes to a number of projects to benefit the local people. These include schools, a scholarship programme and other community projects. The camp is keen to minimise its impact on the environment and uses solar powered lamps and other green technologies. There’s also a tree planting scheme under the own a tree initiative.
