About Karichota Retreat

In the forests of Mt Kenya, Africa’s second highest mountain, stands Karichota. With views of the mountain’s three craggy peaks, Karichota is the home of The Theatre Company. The centre has a selection of artists, writers and yoga retreats, and welcomes people who need time and space to focus on an artistic project.

Keith Pearson – author, actor and founder of The Theatre Company – lives on site and personally hosts the retreat with manager Jane Njoroge. The main house has a double bedroom, 2 single bedrooms and a family bedroom, as well as 2 bathrooms, kitchen and comfortable living area filled with books and art. The sweeping grounds also include a studio for music and yoga, a succulents’ garden and a prized collection of orchids, 16 of which are endemic. The centre is eco-conscious and recycles, reuses and reduces.

The retreat offers theatre programmes, performance laboratories and yoga retreats. Activities in the area include climbing Mt Kenya, walking in the forest, bird watching, fishing in the Burgaret River, and game drives in the many nearby conservancies. Karichota is a perfect space from which to explore the area or just relax, enjoy the view and get away from it all.
