Tucked into a valley and shaded by acacia trees, Porini Rhino Camp sits on the banks of a seasonal river. Located in the lovely Ol Pejeta Conservancy, the camp has access to all this 90,000-acre conservancy offers. The conservancy is home to a wide variety of species of animals, including all the big five, and is a sanctuary for endangered black rhino, for chimpanzees, and for the last Northern white rhinos in the world. A resident pack of wild dogs is often seen here.
The 7 spacious en-suite tents have authentic safari furniture and verandas with views of the valley and the plentiful game that comes through it. The tents are decorated in traditional bush style and lit by solar lamps. The camp’s experienced chef provides high quality meals in the attractive mess tent.
Activities in the conservancy include day and night game drives, guided bird walks, and bush meals and sundowners at scenic locations. With Mt Kenya towering over the area and sweeping plains filled with game, drives here are filled with stunning views. The number of visitors to the conservancy is limited to preserve the environment, and the camp’s policies on water, land, energy and sewage ensure it is genuinely eco-friendly. Ecotourism Kenya has awarded the camp their prestigious gold award.
