About Rhino River Camp

Rhino River Camp, which opened in 2009, is a stylish tented lodge near the rhino sanctuary that gives it its name. The eco-camp is set in 80 acres of privately-owned land adjacent to Meru National Park.

The 8 en-suite rooms are positioned amongst raffia palms, yellow fever trees and tamarind trees on the banks of the Kindani River. The rooms are made of canvas and local hardwood, and each has an unimpeded view of the river and riverine forest. Meals are served in the elegant white-washed dining and bar area, or out in the bush. The swimming pool is surrounded by wooden decking and the spa has a range of treatments including massage.

Game drives cover Meru National Park and the rhino sanctuary. Other activities include mountain biking, river fishing, guided nature trail walks, bird walks and cultural visits to nearby Meru villages. Nearby places of interest include Kilimajero Caldera, an extinct volcano crater good for hiking and bicycling, and Mururi Swamps, where rhino are often spotted at dawn and dusk.

The camp is keenly eco-friendly and minimises its impact on the environment by using solar and hydro-electric power. It contributes to the sustainability of the local community by employing locals where possible.
