About Jambo House

Jambo House, in the centre of Lamu Old Town, offers budget accommodation and has friendly and informative staff. The house is situated in the Old Town, a short walk from the town square and Lamu Fort. It opened in 2008.

There are 5 rooms, all with either en-suite bathroom or private external bathroom. The rooms, named after local villages and islands, are called Kipungani, Manda, Matondoni, Lamu and Shela. The rooms have traditional Lamu wooden shutters and are decorated in sunny yellow and sky blue. All rooms have fan and mosquito net. Local art and photos from around the world decorate the walls. Breakfast and afternoon tea are included in the rate; lunch and dinner are not served, although lunch boxes can be provided on request. Electricity is a combination of solar and mains. The rooftop terrace, with a good view over Lamu Old Town, has sunbeds, books, games and a cool box of soft drinks. A well-designed noticeboard gives information about Lamu and local events. Guide books and maps are also available. Activities include Swahili cooking classes, henna painting, boat trips and kayaking. A local masseuse offers massage, manicure and pedicure.
