It’s said that the name of this collection of elegant houses was bestowed on them by fishermen on seeing them glowing with moonlight one night. The houses can be taken together or separately; all have Lamu carved doors, hand crafted Lamu furniture, Zanzibar chests, barati ceilings, white washed walls, niches filled with ornaments and views of the sea. The compound has a spacious tropical garden filled with bougainvillea, lots of baraza seating areas and a swimming pool.
Full Moon House has 3 en-suite double bedrooms, one of which is a spacious top floor master bedroom. The dining area on the ground floor overlooks the pool. Kiwandani, on the other side of the pool, has 3 en-suite double rooms.
Mama Daktari is the former house of famous Flying Doctor Anne Spoerry, and has 2 en-suite suites. Garden house, adjoining Mama Daktari, has 2 en-suite double rooms. Betty’s suite, on the rooftop of Garden House, is a romantic idyll with 1 en-suite double room, spacious terrace and infinity pool.
The chef creates dishes according to the wishes of the guests including freshly caught seafood, vegetarian and desserts. The team of staff is on hand to organise dhow cruises, massage and trips to Lamu Old Town.
