About Basecamp Dorobo Mobile Camp

Named after the Dorobo people of this area, Basecamp Dorobo Mobile Camp is entirely mobile. The camp is owned and managed by Basecamp, a luxury eco-friendly camp near Talek Gate. Basecamp Foundation supports and cooperates with local communities, as well as developing and promoting Basecamp’s sustainable tourism concept.

Basecamp Dorobo Mobile Camp is inspired by the wanderings of the nomadic hunter-gatherer Dorobo people who spend their lives traversing the African savannah carrying little and foraging for their food. The camp offers the opportunity to spend several days walking and camping through the Naboisho Conservancy which borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The guided walks usually start from Basecamp Wilderness Camp or Basecamp Eagle View. After a morning walk, picnic lunch is served; the afternoon walk culminates at the campsite where specially designed, simple tents have been put up. Sundowners and dinners are served around the campfire. Local Maasai guides lead the walks, and are happy to speak about their traditions and lifestyle, as well as the wildlife and birdlife seen along the way.

Basecamp holds a gold award from Ecotourism Kenya, and has won the WTM First Choice Responsible Tourism Award, SKAL Sustainable International Award and Sustainable Destinations Top 100.
