In the style of classic safaris, Bateleur Camp blends adventurous game viewing with the ambience of the Kenyan explorers of the ’20s and ’30s. The glamour of vintage Africa is evoked by hardwood floors, polished silver and sparkling crystal overlooking the game-studded plains of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
The 18 en-suite tents each has a secluded private veranda furnished with leather armchairs from which to view the surrounding vegetation. A butler waits on each tent. The main dining area is adorned with safari antiques, handcrafted artefacts and keepsakes of bygone times such as brass compasses, leather trunks and framed maps. As well as day and night game drives, the camp offers interpretative bush walks both around the camp grounds and along the Oloololo Escarpment or the lush banks of the Mara River. Lectures on Maasai culture and visits to local communities are available. Sundowners at nearby viewpoints and bush meals are also on offer. Bateleur Camp is designed according to the principles of ecotourism and promotes the use of renewable energy, waste management and recycling. The camp supports the conservation of wildlife and contributes to many development projects designed to raise the standard of living of the neighbouring communities. Bateleur Camp has a silver award from Ecotourism Kenya.
