lkeliani is the name given to young Maasai warriors, before they become Il Moran. To the Maasai, warriors represent strength, courage, wisdom and comradeship, and this name seems almost to convey magical powers.
Ilkeliani Camp, an eco-friendly camp on the banks of the Talek River, aims to preserve the environment and to stay as close as possible to nature. The 17 en-suite tents are spaced out along the Talek River, with views across the plains. All tents have solar lighting and use a sustainable hot water system. Lunch is served alfresco, while candlelit dinner is served in the mess tent. Picnics are available for any guests who wish to take an extended game drive.
The Maasai guides share their local knowledge and assist guests with the planning of each game drive. Game walks are available, outside the reserve, with an emphasis on tracking and birdlife. Visits to local Maasai communities are encouraged, to enrich the guests’ appreciation of the Maasai culture. Ilkeliani Camp assists and involves the local Maasai communities in conserving their wildlife and environment, and is dedicated to social development projects in the community. The camp employs as many staff from the local communities as possible
