Jan’s Camp is a small and authentic safari camp on a ridge looking across the Loita Hills, and the forest evocatively known as the Forest of the Lost Child.
The 3 en-suite huts are built according to Maasai tradition with additional modern touches. There are also 2 family tents that can accommodate 6 pax. Both the huts and tents have their own kitchen and can be taken self-catering or catered; the chef is available to serve inventive and tasty food if required, and specialises in delicacies like Vietnamese spring rolls, Greek salad and homemade hummus. The comfortable and spacious dining tents are lit by lanterns and adorned with African art. Staff from the local Maasai community manage and serve at the camp. The camp is firmly eco-friendly, using water sustainably, recycling and composting, and supports several local community projects.
Maasai Trails, based at Jan’s Camp, offers fascinating walks guided by local Maasai guides through the sacred Loita Forest and the Rift Valley. The walks, with porters and chef, can take one or several days as the guests wish; the camp is put up in a different spot each night, meals and drinks are served, and the Maasai speak about their culture and traditions.
