Nyika means Large Plains or Great Plains – a fitting name for this sister camp to Mara Plains Camp, operated by Great Plains Conservation. Mara Nyika was established in 2019, and offers luxury and indulgence. The camp is located in the exclusive Naboisho Conservancy bordering the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
The 4 Dereck Joubert designed en-suite tented suites are raised on wooden platforms. All tents have 4-poster beds, dressing room, lounge area and large veranda, and are adorned with atmospheric lanterns, antique furniture, Afghan rugs and African art. All tents are equipped with professional photographic equipment, yoga mats, and have wheelchair ramps; their bathrooms have showers and copper bathtubs. The main lounge, library, dining area and bar are linked to the tents by raised walkways. The chef serves fresh and innovative dishes in the dining area or the bush, and caters to dietary requirements. The boutique has elegant African artefacts. The wellness spa offers in-tent treatments.
Activities include day and night game drives in luxurious wildlife viewing vehicles and cultural visits to local Maasai villages. The camp operates with its own solar system with plug points and Wifi in every tent. Children over 8 are welcome; kids’ activities include birding, cooking, art and wildlife tracking.
