About Mara Plains Camp

Mara Plains Camp is in Olare Orok Conservancy, a 20,000-acre initiative created with the aim of developing a sustainable future for both local Maasai and the wildlife. Established in 2008, the camp has been designed to have as little impact as possible on the environment while still providing a luxury safari experience; not even a teaspoon of cement can be found on site. Ecotourism Kenya has awarded the camp their prestigious gold award.

The 6 en-suite octagonal tents, set in riverine forest along the Ntiakntiak River, are raised on decks with sweeping views. The 3 open air inter-connected marquis tents house 2 lounges, 1 with a small library and writing area, and a main dining room with a grand wood table and magnificent chandelier, tastefully decorated in rich earthy browns, coppers and reds. Mara Plains Camp is the only camp to offer game drives in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, and in both Olare Orok Conservancy and Mara North Conservancy, a conservation area of over 100,000 acres. Schedules are flexible; the highly qualified guides are available for night drives, game walks and cultural visits to local Maasai villages at any time.

The camp has committed 150,000 USD per year to the local Maasai to maintain and preserve the conservancies and their wildlife.
