Named for the big cats for which the Mara is famed, Porini Lion Camp is ideally positioned to see these and other big game. The camp is situated on the banks of the Ntiakntiak River in the Olare Orok Conservancy, an exclusive 20,000-acre conservancy that borders the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
The camp has no permanent structures. The 10 en-suite tents each have a double and a single bed, solar powered lighting and a private veranda. The camp chef prepares all meals with fresh produce and home baked bread. Picnics are available for guests who enjoy extended game drives. Game drives cover both the Olare Orok Conservancy and the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Night drives in the conservancy give guests the chance to see the more elusive nocturnal game. Maasai moran are also available to escort guests on walks in the conservancy, and to speak about how the various indigenous animals and plants are used by their community and how their way of life is entwined with their surroundings.
Porini Lion Camp has been granted a prestigious gold award from Ecotourism Kenya. The local Maasai community receive income for each guest in the conservancy, and employment for their members. Strict policies cover landuse, water, sewage, energy and waste disposal.
