Famous for its resident herd of Rothschild giraffe, Giraffe Manor is the only place in the world where guests can enjoy the experience of feeding and photographing giraffes over the breakfast table and at the front door. An elegant, personally hosted hotel, Giraffe Manor is situated in the Nairobi suburb of Langata.
Giraffe Manor was built in 1932 by David Duncan of the Macintosh Toffee family and is modelled on a Scottish hunting lodge. In 1974, 2 highly endangered Rothschild giraffes were moved onto the estate and became the founders of today’s herd. Giraffe Manor was opened to the public in 1984 and in 2009 became part of the Tamimi portfolio of camps and lodges.
Set in 140 acres of indigenous forest, the manor has views of Mt Kilimanjaro and the Ngong Hills. The site also includes the Giraffe Centre where visitors can climb to the level of a giraffe’s head and feed him eye to eye. Profits from the centre go to various projects in Kenya. There are 2 double rooms, 3 twin rooms and a family suite. All rooms are en-suite, and elegantly furnished. The rooms are equipped with torch, hairdryer, nail kit and WiFi. Excursions to sites in and around Nairobi can be arranged.
