Swiss hotelier Ueli Prager founded the first Movenpick restaurant in Zurich in 1948, and expanded into wine shops, fine food outlets and more restaurants. The first 2 hotels opened in Zurich in 1973; the group now has 84 properties in 24 countries.
Movenpick opened in Nairobi’s Westlands district in 2018. The 276 rooms are made up of superior, deluxe, executive, family, suite, presidential suite, and 1- and 2-bedroom apartments. All rooms have smart TV, aircon, minibar, safe, desk and Wifi. The family room accommodates 4 pax and includes a kitchenette; the suites include a living room. The presidential suite has 2 bedrooms, living room, dining room, office and kitchen. The apartments have living room, dining area and fully equipped kitchen.
Baluba has buffet, live cooking and a la carte menu; The View is a 360-degree revolving restaurant with Swiss and Mediterranean cuisine; Kijani Bar is beside the swimming pool. The conference centre has 14 fully equipped meeting rooms including the huge Almasi Ballroom, and the Hall of Africa that can hold 1,000 pax. The poolside Cocktail Terrace is ideal for functions. There’s also a health centre, spa and executive lounge. Movenpick has a strong sustainability programme promoting local employment, equal opportunities, supplier sustainability and reducing emissions.
