About Alawi Boutique Hotel

On the beachfront of Jacaranda Beach, on the northern fringe of Watamu, Alawi Boutique Hotel is an elegant and welcoming space. According to legend, Alawi, a rich and famous merchant in the 18thcentury, fell in love with a local girl named for the coastal trade wind Kaskazi; they married and had four sons who they named after other coastal winds: Shuta, Jamba, Maliza and Kuzi.

The five luxury rooms at Alawi are named after Kaskazi and her sons. All the rooms have 4-poster beds, antique chests, brass lanterns and plentiful cupboards. They also have aircon, fan, TV, safe and fridge. The lounges on the ground floor and 1stfloor have Swahili sofas, Lamu door coffee table and hanging lanterns; their walls are inlaid with niches adorned with Arabic glassware. The restaurant, on the veranda, serves Italian food as well as plentiful vegetarian and seafood options including zucchini carpaccio, chickpea salad, linguine with pesto, tuna tartar, chicken curry, risotto with seafood and pennette with crab or lobster. The bar has an extensive menu of beers, wines and cocktails.

The house shares a swimming pool with several nearby houses. Activities available on the beach include boat trips and water sports.
