Bare feet are recommended at this rustic idyll on the beach. About half an hour north of Malindi, this camp is beachfront, secluded and welcoming.
The 6 tented rooms all have permanent bathrooms and thatched makuti roofs. The handcrafted furniture includes 4-poster beds, daybeds and arm chairs; each tent has a veranda that views the tropical plants and palms. Sandy paths join the tented rooms to the friendly beach bar and to the spacious dining area. The camp is eco-friendly: fans and lights are solar powered, and gas lamps line the paths at night.
The central dining area is a towering creation of makuti, with open walls and high roof. The beach bar is well stocked with a variety of local and imported wines and spirits, and the shaded tables on the beach make a perfect place to enjoy a sunset cocktail. The innovative menu is filled with creative seafood options including the spectacular seafood platter, as well as locally sourced meat, vegetarian and vegan dishes. Camping is allowed; pets are welcome.
Activities include water sports at nearby Che Shale, including kite surfing and boat trips. Also on offer are excursions to local attractions such as Gede Ruins, Malindi and Watamu.
