About Desert Rose
Perched on the side of Mt Nyiru, Desert Rose gives striking views across Northern Kenya. This exquisite lodge is family hosted and offers personal service and unique design.
The 5 en-suite cottages have been handcrafted, with local stone walls and peaked thatched roofs. Each is furnished with a huge wild olive bed and other aged wooden furniture. Each has an open air bathroom perfect for soaking in the starlight and a furnished deck with views of the mountains and plains. The dining room and lounge are open sided to make the most of the views, and the food is simple, fresh and tasty.
The swimming pool and rocky sunbathing terrace also offer views across the forested slopes and into the valley.
This wild desert region offers itself to distinctive activities and unexploited cultural experiences. Guided walks, camel walks and water sliding are all available, as well as cultural visits to the remote northern villages of the Samburu, Turkana and El Molo peoples. Walks in the forest and bird watching are particularly of interest. Camel safaris, scenic flights, longer drives and fishing on Lake Turkana can also be arranged. The lodge is eco-friendly and uses solar power.
