In the Ol Donyo Mara Conservancy in the far north of Kenya, Koros Camp is an attractive and welcoming camp, an ideal pause on a journey through the north of Kenya.
Koros Camp began life as the upcountry home of the Taylor family while they were working with the Lake Turkana Wind Power Project. Their love for the camp shows in the attention to detail with which they have adorned the camp. The tents can be double or twin as required; bathrooms are in a separate block and hot showers are alfresco. The living and dining tent is attractively furnished with sofas, armchairs and dining table, and adorned with elegant touches. The camp is fully staffed, and the chef serves tasty meals and barbecues. There’s also a natural rock plunge pool with poolside barbecue.
Samburu guides offer guided walks in the area. Birdlife is prolific, and small game includes monkeys, jackels, small cats, dik dik and Grevy’s zebra. Lake Turkana, familiarly known as the Jade Sea, offers boat trips, fishing, bird watching and camping on Central Island. Other nearby sites of interest include the Chalbi Desert, and Sibiloi National Park and Koobi Fora, both known for archaeological digs.
